Reheated pasta in the air fryer is best for baked-style dishes (lasagne, baked ziti, mac and cheese). The convection air crisps the top while the foil-covered first half heats the centre evenly.

Technique

Transfer the pasta to a small oven-safe dish that fits inside the basket. Add 1 tablespoon of water or extra sauce, cover with foil for the first 3 minutes, then uncover for the final 2 to crisp the top.

Serving size: 1–2 cups of cooked pasta with sauce, in a small oven-safe dish.

How to tell it’s done

Sauce is bubbling at the edges of the dish; pasta is heated through; the top has just begun to brown if uncovered.

Watch out for

  • Reheating dry pasta without sauce or water will turn it crunchy and inedible. Always add liquid.
  • Skip the air fryer entirely for delicate pasta in cream sauces — the sauce breaks. Use the stovetop for those.

FAQ about reheating pasta in an air fryer

What temperature should I reheat pasta at in an air fryer?
Reheat pasta at 350 °F (177 °C). The lower temperature is intentional — leftover food only needs to warm through, and higher heat would scorch the surface before the centre rewarms.
How long does pasta take to reheat in an air fryer?
Pasta takes 5 minutes at 350 °F (177 °C), shake once at 3 minutes so both sides warm through and crisp evenly.
Do you need to shake pasta when reheating?
Yes — shake the basket once at 3 minutes. Loose pieces (or pasta in a dish) heat unevenly otherwise; the shake redistributes them so the centre and edges warm at the same rate.
Is the air fryer better than the microwave for reheating pasta?
Yes — the air fryer is dramatically better for any leftover that was originally crispy. Pasta reheated in a microwave goes soggy because microwaves steam the surface from the inside; the air fryer's convection heat drives off that surface moisture and restores the original crust. The downside is a slightly longer wait (5 min vs ~1 min in a microwave) — usually worth it.
Can you reheat pasta straight from the fridge?
Yes — fridge-cold is the standard starting point and the timing on this page assumes it. There is no need to bring the food to room temperature first — the convection air handles the temperature differential well.
Can you reheat multiple pieces at once in the air fryer?
Yes, as long as they fit in a single layer with space between pieces. Stacked or overlapping pieces steam each other from their own moisture, which is exactly what you are trying to avoid when reheating crispy leftovers. Work in batches if your basket cannot hold the full serving in one layer.
