- with per-brand timing
Frozen breaded shrimp cook in just 8 minutes at 400 °F (204 °C) with a shake — faster than any other frozen protein. Coconut, popcorn, and standard butterfly varieties all hit the same window with small temperature tweaks shown in the brand row.
Technique
Cook from frozen — do not thaw. Single layer with tails pointing up so the breading on the underside touches the basket grate and crisps. Shake gently at 4 minutes.
- Serving size
- About 15–20 breaded shrimp in a single layer
- Oil spray
- None for pre-fried breading (SeaPak, Gorton's). A light spray helps only on the lightly-breaded popcorn-style varieties.
Brand-specific timings
The generic baseline above works for most major brands. The rows below are calibrated per product where the cut, breading or pre-fry process meaningfully changes the cook.
SeaPak
Jumbo Butterfly Shrimp
- Temp
- 400 °F
- Time
- 9 min
- Shake at
- 5 min
Largest of the common frozen shrimp — needs the extra minute. The butterfly cut means more surface area; expect a louder sizzle.
SeaPak
Popcorn Shrimp
- Temp
- 400 °F
- Time
- 7 min
- Shake at
- 4 min
Smaller pieces, less breading, fastest cook of the category. Start checking at 6 minutes — they cross from crisp to dry inside a minute.
SeaPak
Coconut Shrimp
- Temp
- 380 °F
- Time
- 8 min
- Shake at
- 4 min
Lower temperature is critical — coconut breading burns black at 400 °F. The 380 °F + 8 minute window keeps the coconut amber.
Costco Kirkland
Tempura Shrimp
- Temp
- 400 °F
- Time
- 8 min
- Shake at
- 4 min
Light tempura batter — needs the full 8 minutes for the batter to crisp without going greasy.
Gorton's
Crunchy Breaded Shrimp
- Temp
- 400 °F
- Time
- 8 min
- Shake at
- 4 min
Standard panko-style breading; tracks the baseline exactly. The most forgiving brand of the category for first-time air fryer users.
How to tell it’s done
Breading is deep golden; shrimp tails curl into a loose C; biting through gives a crisp shell, opaque pink-white shrimp, and no rubbery centre.
Watch out for
- Do not exceed 9 minutes total. Shrimp go from cooked to rubbery fast — every additional minute past 8 makes them tougher.
- Skip popcorn shrimp brands that arrive heavily ice-glazed. Run them under cold water for 15 seconds to wash off excess ice, pat dry, then air-fry.
- Do not crowd. Shrimp release a little moisture and will steam each other if stacked.
