Doneness
A fork drags easily through the flesh and pulls it into spaghetti-like strands; the edges are lightly golden. If it's still firm and won't shred, give it more time.
Oil & seasoning
Brush the cut faces with oil so they don't dry out and the edges caramelize.
Season with: salt, black pepper, garlic powder, olive oil, Parmesan.
Watch out for
- Halve a tough raw squash carefully with a sharp, heavy knife.
- Scoop out the seeds before cooking.
