Doneness
Breading is deep golden with crisp edges; the cream-cheese filling is bubbling slightly at the openings of the pepper halves. Pulling one apart should reveal a soft, hot filling that holds its shape briefly before slumping.
Oil & seasoning
None — frozen poppers are pre-breaded and pre-oiled.
Watch out for
- Single layer only with space between — poppers touch as the cheese expands and fuse together. Pull them apart while still hot if they do stick.
- Do not thaw — the breading goes soggy and the filling leaks out into the basket.
- If a popper bursts mid-cook, leave it alone until the very end and lift carefully — the molten cream cheese hits 250 °F+ and burns badly on contact.
